When traveling through the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic you will come across a small city called Cesky Krumlov. This city is filled with rich culture and history with its main attraction being a magnificent castle of the same name.

When visiting the city of Cesky Krumlov the first place you will want to visit is the Five-Petalled Rose Festival. This festival is held on the summer solstice in June. It is during this festival you will drink, sing and really get a feeling for the people and their culture.
Besides that the festival will bring you back to mid evil times. You will have jousting, fights, competitions and much more. People will dress up in historic costumes, recreate the food and lifestyle of the age gone by.
After the festival if you stay in the city you will be able to take part in the music festival. The music festival starts at the end of July and the start of August. Here you will see many live performers such as singers, dancers and performance artists. You will also be immersed is a world of culture that is only available at the festival.
Now, if you have ever heard of the city then you have heard of the castle. The castle is one of the most impressive sights you will see in all of the Czech Republic. The castle began construction in 1240 by the Vítkovci at a ford in the Vltava River. It was placed there as a lookout and protection for the trade route into Bohemia.
For its time the castle was very unusual. Compared to the rest of the city the castle was unusually large in comparison to all of the other buildings and was constructed with an assortment of room styles depending on which time the construction of the castle was performed.
In the late 1990’s the castle and its gardens began to fall into disrepair. In an order to help maintain the history and heratige of the castle the historical society marked the building as a historic landmark and hence put it under ist protection and control.
