The climate is mild to moderate and characterized by four distinct seasons that correspond to the temperate climate zone. Herein is a simple but comprehensive guide on the weather in the Czech Republic in case you decide to pay a visit to this magnificent European nation.

1. SPRING

Spring in this country often starts in the second half of March and spreads all the way to May. The temperatures in March do not often drop below freezing. In most areas, the snow will start to melt and the first flowers start appearing. However, it may still be quite chilly but the May temperatures usually rise to between 8 and 14 degrees Celsius.

The weather in April can be rather unpredictable and may vary from snowy to sunny in a span of just a few minutes. May; the last month of spring, is generally a warm month with day temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The trees and flowers will be in bloom at this time. In mid-May from around 12th to 14th, it may freeze in the mornings (The Ice Men days).

2. SUMMER

Summer in the Czech Republic is the period from June to around mid-September. Summers in this country are often mild with temperatures ranging from 20 to 27 degrees Celsius. Sometimes, it may be quite humid and temperatures may rise to around 30 to 35 degrees Celsius or higher. July and August usually experience the highest heat waves. Thunderstorms and showers are quite common during summer in the country.

3. AUTUMN

Autumn stretches from September through mid-November. The weather in September is very similar to Indian summer (babi leto). It is quite warm particularly in the second half of September. This half-month period usually marks the end of the warm and sunny days.

Full autumn weather is witnessed in October and November. At this time, it is often chilly with temperatures ranging from 10 to 14 degrees Celsius and some rainy/sunny days in between. These two months offer you the chance to witness the beautiful phenomenon of leaves changing color. November marks the first month of snow fall with temperatures dropping below freezing.

4. WINTER

Winter in the Czech Republic usually stretches from around mid-November to mid-March. Czech winters are characteristically cloudy, cold, and icy and wet with below freezing temperatures generally. The first snow will usually fall in November and the country experiences its lowest temperatures in January and February (-5 to -10 degrees Celsius). The start of March is quite chilly and wet with temperatures mostly under 10 degrees Celsius.

There may still be snow fall in March. At this time of the year, it rains or snows lightly with average temperatures around -2 to 2 degrees. Sometimes, the snow may come and melts just before Christmas or can fail to show up until January. Decembers in The Czech Republic witness short days with darkness sometimes setting around 5 pm.
