Prague is the capital of Czech Republic and is one of the most visited cities in Europe. It is known all over the world for its galleries, museums and theatres. Hybernia Theatre is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Prague. Plenty of people visit here to experience the different ballet and theatre performances. However, it was not always a theatre. When Charles IV was in power, it was a monastery. It survived four wars after that. During this time period, it sometimes functioned as a gallery, a college and even as an art house. Finally in 2006, after a major reconstruction project, it was converted to a theatre with excellent acoustics.
If you compare it with some of the other important theatres, then it is a bit small in size. But the slightly smaller size also ensures that every person gets a great view of the stage.
One of the best things about this place is that there is no particular dress code as such. Maximum theatres have their own dress code and you won’t be allowed unless you are wearing a blazer and tie. However, here there are no such rules. You can walk in wearing jeans and a T-shirt and no one is going to stop you. However, it is still advisable that you dress elegantly.
The location is also one of the best things about Hybernia Theatre. It is located right in the heart of the city and is very easy to reach. If you want to take the subway, then you have to get down at Namesti Republiky stop and then walk from there. Apart from that, you will find plenty of buses which will drop you just near the theatre. Cabs are also easily available in Prague and is a very convenient option. After the performance ends, you will also be able to get a cab from right in front of the theatre. The theatre is also just a 10 minute walk from Old Town square.
During weekends and on holidays, it can get very crowded. Hence, in order to be safe, it will be better if you book your tickets in advance. Tickets can be booked through various online platforms and they are also very much affordable.
Since this is a relatively new theatre, it is equipped with all the modern facilities. The capacity is 850 and is completely air conditioned. There are also lifts and special washrooms for differently abled persons. There is also sufficient parking space for the visitors. Inside the theatre, you will also find a cloakroom. However, the best thing is that there are several bars inside which offers a large variety of drinks during or after the performance.
One of the most popular performances here is the “Swan Lake”. Swan Lake is actually a three hour long ballet. However, here they have shortened it to just 90 minutes. All the dancers are really good and in spite of the short time they present the story in a very beautiful and detailed way. However, there is no live orchestra.
