The United Islands music festival is an annual presentation of various genres of both local and international music. The stylish and diverse presentation include jazz, folk, world, electronic, indie, pop, rock, and new experimental music and trends. This music festival is always held in the open air, and the admissions are always free. The festival traditionally takes place on the Vltava river islands such as the Slovansk’y, Střeleck’y Ostrov, and Kampa islands as well as other nearby locations. The other venues often include Kinsky gardens, the Slavonic Island, and the Janáckovo nábre’í. Apart from the outdoor presentations, the music festival is also continued in the nights in chosen night clubs where the festival’s music is also presented. The festival has been held annually since 2004, and this year is the eleventh year of presentation.
The main objective of this music festival is to present progressive and new music artists from the Czech Republic and beyond to the wide audience mostly made of Czech Republic music lovers. During the festival, the audience gets to enjoy music from a wide array of musicians. In fact, an estimated 2 0 0 music artists perform their music on approximately 10 stages. The audience that gathers on these festivals gets the chance to celebrate the festivals and enjoy the distinct atmosphere on these islands and clubs. The exterior pedestrian zones and open parks make up a unique environment in which to celebrate and enjoy the diversity of both local and international music for free.
In this year – 2 0 1 7 – the music festival will begin on 22nd June with a club open night and end on 25th June. The club open night is known as Klubova Noc, which literally stands for ‘club night.’ The Thursdays prior to the main event are always known as the club nights, in which a chosen number of clubs host DJs and bands, which play much of the music played during the main events. Entry to these clubs is always free, but the clubs vary in terms of the genres of music that they play. As such, club goers are often advised to choose clubs based on the music genres they prefer. The 23 rd will be a warm up night with free entry for other separate festivities. The main events on the Slovanský, Střelecký Ostrov, and Kampa Islands of Prague will take place on Saturday ( 24th June ) between 9 a m and 10 p m and on Sunday between 9 a m and 8 p m. These events will be distributed among four main venues located on the three main islands of the Slovansk’y, Střeleck’y Ostrov, and Kampa and other additional locations. The 2017 venue layout map will be almost akin to the 2016 venue layout map.
The festival is not only a good place to enjoy both local and international music from different genres, but you will also get a chance to sample the local cuisine and meet different people from different backgrounds. Some of the venues are lined up with stalls of different kinds and you can sample the foods as well as other local goodies.
